Guckobir (Supporting Association for The Individuals in Difficult Conditions) is an association established in Ankara, Turkey. The organization is committed to assisting and offering equal opportunities to people in difficult conditions through help of their professional members such as social workers, psychologists, or nurses and their many young volunteers.

One of Guckobir’s main aims is to support an organisation called „Behice Eren Child and Youth Centre“. The Centre is run by the Turkish Social Services and mainly works with young people, street children and homeless people in Ankara. Through close co-operation with this Centre, Guckobir assists as many people as possible with different problems and from all walks of life.

Besides, Guckobir arranges and takes part in many activities in cooperation with other public institutions and civil society organizations across Turkey. It also participates in several international programmes such as the Youth Programme run by the European Commission. Guckobir is a sending organization under these international programs and is in the process of becoming a host organization of European Voluntary Service.

The organization also takes part in other actions of the Youth Programmes such as The Youth for Europe or CIF Programme, which aims at promoting the knowledge of social work profession from cross cultural perspective. Within this programme, Guckobir hostsas well as sends social workers from all around the world . The organization wishes to further develop their activities at both national sand international level.

Tasks / Activities

The EVS volunteer will participate in preparing sports activities for children – training of Capoeira and Muay Thai and will conduct their own courses according to their interest and focus such as English or arts. The volunteer will also accompany children in sports competitions taking place in other Turkish cities.

The EVS project is suitable for those who are interested in learning Turkish – organization offers the opportunity to participate in a course of Turkish language.

The hosting organization whose mission is to fill leisure time for children of different ages is located in Çinçin area, the poorest district of Ankara. This part of the city is known for poverty and increasing child labour.

The volunteer will have their own room in a large furnished apartment shared with other EVS volunteers from different European countries. Volunteer will be provided with accommodation, food, pocket money, insurance, and 90% of travel costs.

Even if you don’t speak English very well, you’re more than welcome to participate in this project.
